Royalty Competition Results

January 9, 2010 marked an historic day in FGRA history as the first FGRA Royalty Competition was held at the Flamingo Resort in St. Petersburg, FL. Hosted by the FGRA Royalty Competition Committee, contestants competed in the categories of Personal Interview, Horsemanship, Western Wear, Public Presentation, and Entertainment vying for the job of Mr. and Miss FGRA.

Over 100 people from across the state came out to see the four candidates compete and support this new fundraising endeavor. Congratulations go out Todd Garrett, Mr. FGRA 2010 and Winston Haws, Mr. FGRA 2010 Runner Up. We would also like to salute Kendall "Candy Cornhole" Shoffner and Victor "Crystal Royale" Hodges who put in countless hours preparing for Miss FGRA but were unable to meet the minimum score requirement.

FGRA Royalty: It’s a JOB not a Title

Fundraising, Public Relations, Community Liaison, Education

For well over a half century, royalty has been a part of rodeos throughout the country. The job of royalty title holders, whether gay or straight, is to promote the sport of rodeo and be an advocate for charitable organizations and causes.

Tipping its hat to this tradition, Royalty has also been apart of gay rodeo since the beginning in 1976 when "King of Cowboys", "Queen of the Cowgirls" and "Miss Dusty Spurs" were crowned at the first gay rodeo. Expanding on this and following the Imperial Courts lead, Emperor I of Reno, Phil Ragsdale, added "Mr., Ms., and Miss National Reno Gay Rodeo" contest to the second gay rodeo as a benefit for the Muscular Dystrophy Association in 1977.

The FGRA Royalty competition is comprised of five categories:

  • Personal Interview.
  • Public Presentation.
  • Horsemanship.
  • Western Wear.
  • Entertainment.

Winners and Runners Up of Mr/Ms/Miss/MsTer FGRA will be responsible for these duties and tasks:

  • Raise money for the charity of their choice during their reign.
  • Be a visible member of the community.
  • Actively serve on FGRA committees.
  • Promote FGRA and the sport of rodeo.
  • Provide education to the public on rodeo and the country western lifestyle.
  • Compete and/or volunteer at other IGRA sanctioned rodeos.
  • Represent FGRA in a positive manner.
